In late 2012 I thought I would explore the solar route. With the utility bills always going up, why not. I called three companies. The first two seemed like they wanted to rush me into getting solar panels and the third took his time and explained everything to me. He had to repeat himself a couple of times because it's a little complicated.
It sounded like a good deal to me so I decided to get solar panels on the roof. By the way, solar is apparently not a great option if your electric bills are less than $150/month. Mine were an average of $250/month for the year. I have a 2200 sqft house, and a pond and spa in the back yard. It adds up!
I chose Solar City for my provider. They were the one I felt most comfortable with and my sales person was Greg Gustafson. Greg was very patient with me and explained everything...twice at my request to repeat! LOL
Due to the regulatory process, it takes 3-4 months to get solar up and running on the house. Fortunately I didn't have to manage that process, Solar City did. Over that period of time, they sent a crew to my house to assess the exterior and interior, as well as the efficiency of my house and made recommendations for upgrades to be more efficient. Some of those I opted to do. I have to say that everyone that I worked with at Solar City, at least 6 or 8 in different departments, were super great to work with. It was like working with Nordstrom!
You get the choice of which panels to install. I chose, and insisted, to install the panels made in the USA. I prefer to create jobs here! The panels that arrived had made in Mexico on them. When I inquired about that, they immediately realized their error and packed up all the unpacked panels, drove back to the shop, and exchanged them for made in USA panels. I checked the labels!
After SCE waived their wand, the system went on. I don't notice anything at all except my bills dropped to $1.50/month! Wow! Of course I pay Solar City a monthly fee, but I'm still saving over $100/month.
I'm super happy with Solar City's service 100%. I couldn't recommend them more. And of course I'm happy with the savings too. I would recommend everyone look into solar panels on their house.
